Mission & Vision

Mission

Social Justice Fund NW is a member-funded foundation that supports the creation of a just society through fundraising, grantmaking, and member involvement. The foundation provides essential resources to organizations in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming to strengthen grassroots efforts in the broad-based movement for progressive, systemic social change.

Vision

We envision a Mountain West and Pacific Northwest region where power and wealth are equitably shared, and where grassroots organizations lead the charge for social change, resourced and supported by a cross-class, multiracial community.

SJF is a values-driven organization, which means our decision-making, programming, and organizational culture are based on embodying these values in our strategic and day-to-day operations.

Our Values

Our History

Since its founding in 1978, Social Justice Fund Northwest (SJF), originally named A Territory Resource, has worked to redistribute wealth to communities most impacted by systemic injustice, advancing social, racial, economic, and political equity in the Mountain West and Pacific Northwest.

n 2005, we changed our name to Social Justice Fund Northwest to reflect the cross-class, multiracial makeup of our members and donors, and the diverse grassroots organizations we support. Our leadership and staff also began to diversify and more adequately represent the communities we serve.

Today, SJF’s staff, board, donors, and grantees are made up of diverse individuals and organizations from different socioeconomic backgrounds, races and ethnicities, immigration statuses, genders and sexualities, disability statuses, and more. All of us are committed to creating long-lasting, progressive social change across our region.
